These are the background paper and presentation slides for my Plenary Address at the 6th Asia-Europe Roundtable on Conflict Management (10-12 June 2009, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland). It focuses on the role of regional and international organisations in international conflict regulation and provides an overview of the mechanisms available to such organisations and the factors that are likely to determine whether they succeed or fail in doing so.
