An Assessment of Global Values-based Benchmarks and Indicators

Building on the results of previous research for the Global Centre for Pluralism (GCP) that included a scan of audit and assessment tools, my colleague Argyro Kartsonaki and I, in this paper, provide an overview of four existing values-based audit tools and outline how they could be adapted for the GCP’s purposes. We then identify the critical implications of developing a values-based approach for the GCP’s pluralism audit tool and the benchmarks and indicators on which such a tool would rely. In a final section, we apply these various considerations and offer concrete suggestions for an illustrative set of indicators for two of the Centre’s benchmarks, namely recognition and belonging.
